Let $P_1$ be the projection onto the line spanned by $(1,0)$ and $P_2$ the projection onto the line spanned by $(1,1)$. A sum of two projections is itself a projection only if its determinant is $0$ or $1$. Compute $\det(P_1+P_2)$ and use it to decide.
