Let $a_1 = 2$, $a_2 = 5$ and $a_n = 3a_{n-1} - 2a_{n-2}$. A "proof" that $a_n = 2^n$ checks only $n = 1$ and then uses the two previous terms in the step. What is $a_5$ really?
