Let $u$ range over the positive numbers of the form $a + b\sqrt2$ with integers $a, b$ satisfying $|a|, |b| \le 20$. What is the smallest such $u$? (There is no smallest over ALL integers — if $u < 1$ were smallest, $u^2$ would be smaller.)
