A solid box is built from $1$-cm cubes. It is $6$ cm long, $5$ cm wide and $4$ cm tall. At each of its four upright corners, a column of cubes $2$ cm by $2$ cm that runs the whole height of the box is taken away. What is the volume of what is left, in cubic cm?
