At a point PP, a smooth function f(x,y)f(x,y) has fxx=4f_{xx}=4, fxy=−1f_{xy}=-1, fyy=2f_{yy}=2. The second directional derivative in the direction of a unit vector u=(u1,u2)\mathbf u=(u_1,u_2) is Du2f=fxxu12+2fxyu1u2+fyyu22D_{\mathbf u}^{2}f = f_{xx}u_1^{2} + 2f_{xy}u_1u_2 + f_{yy}u_2^{2}. Find Du2f(P)D_{\mathbf u}^{2}f(P) for u=(35,45)\mathbf u = \left(\dfrac35,\dfrac45\right), and use its sign to decide whether ff curves upward or downward along that direction at PP.
