Multi-Digit Multiplication · Challenge problem

Sam multiplied 47×3647 \times 36 with the standard algorithm. He found 47×6=28247 \times 6 = 282 correctly, but on the second row he wrote 47×3=14147 \times 3 = 141 and forgot to shift it one place (he left out the zero). Then he added the two rows. How much smaller than the correct answer was Sam's answer?
